If you’re already fed up of hearing about VAT increases and a year ahead of austerity measures, why not indulge and surprise yourself with some seasonal, escapist, Cinderella magic? But as the post-Christmas blues and the cold, dark winter drags on, even Cinderella needs a face-lift. Thankfully she’s getting one, as Scottish Ballet have taken all the best bits from the original and jazzed it up to create a quirky and unique retelling that promises to burst the story into the twenty-first century.
Whilst Prokofiev’s music remains untouched, multi award-winning choreographer Ashley Page OBE has again teamed up with world-renowned designer Antony McDonald to create a Cinderella like no other. With a combination of classical ballet and contemporary techniques, 18th Century France meets Andy Warhol in McDonald’s glamorous sets and elaborate costumes that nod to Vivienne Westwood. So go ahead and lift yourself out of the January depression courtesy of Scotland’s finest.
