There’s a bit of a buzz in the air about Tang Shu-Wing‘s Detention. A wordless hour spent in a classroom with three unruly teens and their disciplinarian teacher is ripe with comedic potential. The parody of adolescent posturing as three boys compete to impress a female classmate provides plenty of laughs. Unfortunately, the acrobatics implied in the publicity photos materialise only as a few moments in the final quarter of the show, with the majority of the action involving a combination of physical comedy, clowning, amusing dance and drumming. If you fancy a change from the more cerebral offerings at Summerhall, Detention is the perfect foil.
