Showing @ Underbelly Cowgate, Edinburgh until Sun 24 Aug @ 16:10

The title is ridiculous and pretty much sums up a show which brings together performance art and comedy in a light hearted look at Scotland. Rachael Clerke is a performance artist who was born and raised in Scotland but left the country in early adulthood. This production is her personal look at the country she left behind as she investigates the “Scottishness” of Donald Trump, Alex Salmond and Mel Gibson, and discovers which one of the three she can relate to the most.

The performance is part lecture, part video art presentation and part comedy theatre. The lecture element combines Power Point slides which, although funny, does seem very familiar. However this doesn’t take away from the strengths that Clerke has as a performer. Her positive attitude and her dedication to the subject make the show an interesting and original look at Scotland and personal identity.

With the referendum on Scottish Independence on the horizon Clerke’s investigation of the culture of Scotland in a comedic and light hearted method is very timely. Her engaging approach may well get people thinking about their own relationship to the country they were born in and this is the strength of the performance.
