Martin Dockery is like a surfer on speed. His delivery is all elaborate gestures, wild eyes, and machine-gun dialogue punctuated frequently with a long, lazy “riiiiiiiiiiight”. And like many of his hippie brethren, Dockery was looking for the truth. In his case, by spending 5 months backpacking around West Africa in search of an epiphany – “any epiphany at all.” Dockery’s shambolic, occasionally disjointed style belies the fact that he is actually a multi-award-winning professional storyteller. He has clearly honed his craft and the juxtaposition of apparent chaos with an obviously well-rehearsed monologue makes for a surprising experience. There is an underlying message here, although occasionally it feels as though the emotional depth has been sacrificed for the sake of a slick script.
