Showing @ Brunton Theatre, Musselburgh, Sat 25 Nov only @19.30 (on tour)

The young and sprightly Daniel Sloss has been around for longer than you may realise, having first appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe seven years ago. That may make some of us feel old. Still, this means that the 24-year-old comedian has been doing this long enough now to find his knack in putting a set together and this touring show must be the highlight of his well established career so far.

Sloss is a gawky, wide-eyed and zany performer; he immediately dissects his appearance in uproarious fashion, linking his exterior to a poster child for Nazi Germany. Sloss doesn’t skirt around controversial subjects and more than once he gets a few awkward laughs that he is unapologetic for in their brutality. They are however, downright hilarious.

Sloss has a great rapport with the audience and he gets them on his side quickly. His set certainly appeals to quite a mass market, whilst the older female members will be taken by Sloss’ appreciation of his mother’s role in the family home, the younger end of the audience will be in uproar at his troubles with his new technically advanced computer console.

Sloss is a charming performer and his forthright support of gay rights, gender equality and the absurdity of bigotry adds another layer to his finely tuned performance. He is supported by his roommate, fellow comedian Kai Humphries, a Geordie living in Edinburgh who has his own easy-going charm and agreeably amiable set to warm the audience up. It’s a fantastic evening’s entertainment, and the boys’ appreciation of the audience is generally authentic as they offer a meet and greet in the bar after the performance. The show is touring Scotland before heading off overseas, so it’s worth catching them now if you get the chance.
