Pixar continue their groundbreaking and most famous film franchise with the long awaited release of Toy Story 3 which gets its international premiere during a special 3D gala screening at the EIFF. Released eleven years after Toy Story 2, the film follows Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang as Andy gets ready to leave for college and the toys, through a series of misfortunes, find themselves imprisoned in Sunnyside day care centre, where the children definitely don’t play nice.

Originally proposed as a sequel to the first two movies between 2004/2005, with a plot following Buzz as he’s recalled to Taiwan, Toy Story 3 was put on hold following a bitter contractual dispute between Disney and Pixar, Following their reconciliation in 2006, the plot was changed to a funny and fast-paced coming of age tale, but with much darker elements that the previous films, such as betrayal, abandonment and the need to belong. Featuring some memorable brand new characters, including Barbie’s other half, Ken; this film showcases incredible animation and insightful writing by several contributors, including Michael Arndt and John Lasseter. Involving, moving and visually stunning, Toy Story 3 is a delightful and thoughtful movie about growing up.
