These days Jenny Eclair is well known as a television personality and writer, but in 1995 she was the first female solo comic to win the much-coveted Perrier Award for her particular blend of scatological humour and distinctly female issues. Eclairious finds her just as crude as ever, and undeniably funny, but does her material have the same impact as it did nearly twenty years ago?
The sell-out audience for this performance certainly aren’t complaining, many are doubled over with laughter throughout. Eclair is an energetic and likeable performer as she bounds around the stage, occasionally stopping to catch her breath in an overstuffed chair. There is a sense of some boundary-pushing in listening to a 53-year-old platinum blonde in comfy shoes casually discuss fisting, farting, Fifty Shades of Gray and feminine incontinence, but it does feel that much of the material is disappointingly predictable for a writer and performer with Eclair’s intellect.
