Showing @ Word of Mouth Café on 8 March & 3 April

There’s a reason hard-men with bald heads and fighting scars get ‘Mum’ tattooed within a heart on their bulging muscles: everyone loves their mum.

To appreciate these most valued women, writer and performer Liberty Des Roches-Dueck is delving into the precious mother-daughter relationship in new work, Mother, à la carte. In an exploration of her personal experiences and relationship with her own mother, Roches-Dueck will present an uplifting and fun mini play in honour of this year’s 100th anniversary of International Woman’s Day.

New Edinburgh-based production company Strange Theatre promise that anyone who has ever had a mum will enjoy the show, from men, women and mothers young and old, to groups of friends and those who have lost their mum. With lunchtime and evening performances at the bohemian World of Mouth Café in Leith providing an opportunity to eat at the same time, this is an ideal Mother’s Day treat.

International Women’s Day is a great excuse to reflect on mothers in tributes that will see people all around the world attending events that raise political and social awareness of struggles faced by women, as well as celebrating the collective power of women past, present and future.

And you never know, you might even see a few ‘Mum’ tattoos too.
