Showing @ Assembly -30th Aug 20:25 1h 14+
Anyone in Edinburgh suffering from midway Fringe fatigue who hasn’t yet caught Chris Addison’s stand-up might be well advised to do so. Many performers try to inject their routines with energy, but the astonishingly youthful The Thick of It star is so highly charged you suspect, if anything, he’s holding some back. The content of the shouty and manic, in the way Robin Williams is shouty and manic, comedian’s show is perhaps not dripping with originality, and some might wish that his knack for satire was directed at something meatier than, say, his admittedly amusing tirade against Ugg boots. But then, the meaningless minutae of the middle-class is something Addison is happy to admit he’s a part of, and everyone above the poverty line will chuckle in recognition at such observations as how quickly the comfortable assimilate their privileges; “Thirty seconds is how long it takes for something to go from a miracle to a basic human right”, quips Addison of the acquisition of Wi-fi. The unrelenting pace and nano-second perfect timing ensure the show feels something like an adrenaline shot administered by a doctor whacked-out on laughing gas; take an hour out of your frivolous middle-class existence to see it.
