Deliverance’ was birthed in lockdown, late on in 2020, in association with Vanishing Point. This year, for the first time, this innovative solo show is available to Fringe audiences – as long as they have an EH postcode. But before you go any further, there’s a huge plot twist. The star of this show is…. you!

Book a time slot, available on Saturdays and Sundays only. You don’t need a screen to take part: this show is entirely analogue. It takes between ninety minutes to two hours so make sure you’ve allowed yourself sufficient time and space. Your ‘Deliverance’ begins when a package is delivered to your door. Telling you anything more about how the show works would spoil the surprise: the unknown-ness is part of the thrill.

Written by Kolbrún Björt Sigfúsdóttir and delivered by Brite Theater, ‘Deliverance’ is an oasis of peace and self-reflection amidst the hurly burly. It asks fundamental questions about identity and ambition. It invites you to remember who you wanted to be when you were younger. It entices you to spend a little less time beating yourself up for the real or imaginary things that might be holding you back. And it coaxes you to reclaim your self-belief in a world that often conspires to knock it out of you. All of this alongside the best soundtrack you can imagine.

It’s easy to see how much of a lifeline this quirky, spirited show would have been mid-pandemic when those lucky enough to be bothered about missing the arts were greedy for stimulation. But five years on, amidst the helter-skelter of life, our need for connection may feel less acute day to day but our need to slow down, ponder where we’ve got to and remember that change is entirely within our power is as vital as ever.

Deliverance‘ is available through Traverse Theatre
