The world of Don’t Let Go is a confusing but enjoyable one. Manic Chord Theatre present a story that slips from reality and into dreams, asking the audience to keep up with the aspirations and playful thoughts of the protagonist Leonard.

The performance feels like a series of sketches populated with madcap characters and quick witted dialogue. This in general works but at times the story seems to be lost, as we follow Leonard through his fantasy world and his attempts to ground himself in reality. The set and stage design work well as the performers make use of the theatre space to develop the fantasy world. Evocative lightning effects and even the use of bubbles brings the audience into the unique dream like landscape.

Puppetry is also skilfully employed to emphasise the playful and joyful nature of Leonard’s dreams. When these elements leave the stage they are sorely missed, but the young talented cast do their best to present the diverse characters and uplifting story in an innovative and interesting way.
