Edinburgh International Film Festival 2012: Focus on Denmark

A collection of Danish documentaries takes centre stage in the festival’s appropriately named Focus on Denmark strand. Realising the financial benefits of working in a rich country, Au Pair follows three Philippine women who have left their loved ones behind, but face social marginalisation and limited opportunities in their adoptive homeland. Siblings – For Better or Worse is a series of four shorts about the relationships children have with their brothers and sisters in their struggle to form their own identities. Meanwhile, it’s controversy by the bucketload in The Ambassador as Mads Brügger secretly films political and economic corruption in the Central African Republic. With Brügger dubbed the Sasha Baron Cohen of Denmark, this one’s bound to have the audience shifting uncomfortably in their seats.
