High quality student theatre can be thin on the ground, so it is refreshing when a company like UCLU Runaground are able to make a name for themselves on the Fringe. This year, they are back with Sarah Ruhl’s adaptation of Orpheus and Eurydice. Greek mythology may not be to everyone’s taste, but this production is cleverly updated whilst retaining the key elements. The performances are consistently good and the script works very well. There is a weak link in the form of the movement sequences, which don’t feel as polished as they should be in a production billed as physical theatre, and the advertised puppetry element is scant, but these are relatively minor niggles in otherwise enjoyable show.
