Showing @ Summerhall, 3-26 Aug (not 17-18), 15.30

On entering Summerhall‘s demonstration room, one is immediately struck by how perfectly the harsh industrial aesthetic of the venue matches that of the three dishevelled characters already onstage. It is difficult to imagine any other production where venue, performance and script feel quite so harmonious. Inspired by Russian poet Daniil Kharms, How a Man Crumbled articulates the plight of three clowns attempting to tell a story but getting constantly distracted. Lecoq-trained Clout Theatre‘s physical antics are enhanced by artistically chaotic subtitles and a bilingual script. There is a constant tension between the comical, the absurd and the underlying threat of violence which makes for a dynamic and menacing theatrical experience.
