As befits a production whose inspiration is synonymous with the arcane and impenetrable, neTTheatre‘s new work is likely to prove too incomprehensible to much of its audience. Puppet is based on the cabalistic tree of life, with a combination of movement, music, projections and bilingual (Polish and English) spoken word. Subtitles are provided, along with a dryly comic introduction from the director. Neither, unfortunately, does much to clarify the action. As the ‘world’s first internet theatre’, neTTheatre are obviously not afraid of experimentation, a strategy which has paid off in the past. This is clearly a high-budget production from an award-winning company, but Puppet may prove just too baffling for mainstream audiences.
