Josie Long has in many ways led the charge for re-energised political comedy over the last few years. Supporting Stewart Lee way back in 2005 must have helped initiate this, given the duo share an equally sarcastic contempt for institutional powers and secretive government. Long took this further however, organising guerrilla-style stand-up sets in car parks and urban districts, engaging with a market of young people damaged by financial fallout. It’s hard for Long to ever truly depart from this background, and here, she weaves in hilarious stories about her geeky passions, chatting to a packed out crowd as if she were talking to us one on one. Long constructs a personal, sincere and meaningful dialogue about how we can engage in social-democratic issues without preaching or sermonising to the masses.
