Dr Daniel Somerville is a senior lecturer at University of Worcester where his
research concerns opera and the operatic, and the application of opera theory to contemporary performance making. He has written and reviewed opera both live and on recordings for Opera Magazine, Opera Now and Classic fM and has published a chapter: ‘The Emergence of the Operatic’ in Music on Stage II for Cambridge Scholar’s Publishing.
Opera is more commonly associated with the International Festival, but a growing number of artists are bringing it to the Fringe. Daniel Somerville, opera expert and performance maker explores some of the issues around staging it at that scale.
