For many arts-lovers, the post-Fringe blues hit hard; after nearly a month of shows, it’s hard not to feel a little deflated when the posters come down and the performers roll out. The year-long wait for the return of the festival can often seem agonising!

But, August festival season will soon be upon us once more, including North Berwick’s own Fringe by the Sea, which has just announced its first 20 shows, as well as an extended running time of ten days, from Fri 3 – Sat 12 Aug.

Shows announced for the seaside festival include comedian and Radio 4 regular Mark Steel, and the Fringe By The Sea debut of Scottish traditional/contemporary band Shooglenifty who will delight the music lovers of East Lothian and beyond.

Staying true to their belief that “small is beautiful”, Fringe by the Sea organisers have ensured that audiences can look forward to intimate venues such as the North Berwick Fry, and the two Spiegeltents in North Berwick harbour.

The festival’s director, Niall Middleton, assures us that “the programme is shaping up to surprise and delight in typical Fringe by the Sea fashion. There’s something for everyone throughout the ten days”.

Just a quick glance at the family programme seems to reinforce this – Monski Mouse‘s baby disco, and Phil Kay’s Gimme Your Left Shoe (both situated at the Marwick Spiegeltent), are sure to keep adults and kids alike entertained.

Although the festival always attracts locals, organisers are hoping to reach more further afield than ever this year, with Middleton promising that, “the performers we’ve got coming will entice people from beyond East Lothian to visit our beautiful little corner of Scotland”.

So get booking tickets now because this year’s Fringe by the Sea is looking to be a sellout!
