It might be winter but pick out those faded t-shirts from bands long gone to C-86 heaven and make sure those summer dresses are wrinkle free. Get ready to shoe-gaze with the finest line-up of twee/indie bands this side of Derbyshire.

Glasgow Popfest brings us 23 bands (Heavenly), movies (Glasgow Film Theatre) and an art exhibition (Heavenly and Café Cosmo), all held over 4 nights with proceeds going to Drake Music Scotland.

Kicking-off the event on Thursday night is Park, a sometimes one-man-band but sometimes not, from Hamburg Germany. David Orth, the Park in mention, is his own man, with almost 20 years of making pleasingly assessable, toe-taping lo-fi pop, never giving in to convention, he is a must. Finishing the evening are London’s The Understudies. Playing perfectly crafted pop songs, this is a band that deserves to be seen live.

Fridays proceedings start with Edinburgh band Spook School. A loud high tempo noise riot is promised but don’t think that its all cacophony and no substance, tight song writing and lyrics to die for. We hope Spook School blow their cover. Finishing the evening are Manda Rin and the Rinettes followed by Amphetameanies, both with members who need no or little introduction. Get to the front and stay there you will not be disappointed.

Saturday has eight bands playing and with Standard Fare, Cola Jet Set playing and with Tender Trap headlining, this is as strong a one day band list as you could wish for. Our bet for the top performers of the night, almost purely based on their Indietracks antics earlier this year, will be Zipper. Popfest describes the pair as “The Ramones meet Talulah Gosh” which does them mere crumbs of justice.  Tuneful indie-pop carnage at it’s lo-fi-finest.

Sunday starts, as do so many, with, ’Serious Drugs’, a documentary about BMX Bandits at the Glasgow Film Theatre and finishes with them headlining the weekend at Heavenly. Could a band more deserve the end of show performance? I think not. Lets not forget others playing today and if you can catch Sweden’s, The Electric Pop Group, do so. In fact beg, borrow or if need be, steal a ticket for Sunday, their 2010 album ‘Seconds’ made many a cold snow filled evening melt away.
