We danced our wee buns off on Saturday, read the full review here!

Chk-Chk-Chk, Bam-Bam-Bam, Gow-Gow-Gow; whatever you want to call them, or however you dare to Google them, !!! are one of the undeniable forefathers of the cowbell laden, bass grinding genre that swept across rock and house dance floors in the early 00’s.

California born, New York bred – the dance-punk outfit synced alongside LCD Soundsystem and The Rapture to shake and strum a fresh but mutually inclusive brew that broke ground from dingy indie basements to the Balearic’s.

However, with an altogether more melted sound and lacking any radio friendly snippet (debut EP !!! Chk Chik Chick – !!! Chk Chik Chick featuring no song less than 5 minutes) the half dozen plus members have continued to tour and record their own blissed out rock in a critically back slap, commercially overlooked decade.

Fourth LP, ‘Strange Weather Isn’t It?’ saw the band saunter off piste from New York and California to record partly in Berlin, which stirred enough of what was in the mix to return grooved slabs of house influenced rock similar to the freshness which the band started with.

Structurally the albums output draws on techo and house blueprints, from opening track and single AM/FM to Brian Eno scented closer ‘The Hammer’.
These could easily be reproduced with a few glowing Macbooks, but wrist slapping percussion and palm sweating grit around the tight drums-bass-guitar rock unit not so easily replicated – especially not in live environment.

Glasgow’s date will be almost a year since drummer Jerry Fuchs tragically fell to his death, in an elevator shaft accident following a benefit gig in New York with the band also seeing a heavy rotation in personnel, with three members substituting out since recording finished.

This will undoubtedly see a new found freshness, but also commitment to performances from the new record at the Classic Grand on Saturday night – which will make any droplets of older material even more refreshing.

(Support for the gig is from Warp labelmates and clean cut dance rock duo ‘The Hundred In The Hands’. The Brooklyn outfit offer a well paced, eager take on a tired genre from much hyped poptastic ‘Pigeons’ and all round electro nod-out ‘This Day Is Made’. We fear big things on a small scale to come from the ‘Beach House’ sound looting pair.)
