Showing @ King’s Theatre, Edinburgh until Sun 22 Jan
Instead of binging it up on the cobbled streets of Edinburgh (who’d have guessed Scots drink 25% more alcohol per head than their English counterparts?) why not follow Cinderella (Joanne Thomson) to the ball for something classier? She’s sure to succeed with the help of Baroness McSquirrel (Allan Stewart) and her no virry weel sidekick Buttons (Andy Gray), even if the wicked Gobina (Grant Stott) is out to ruin it all. If Cinders is lucky, the Prince might even slipper one.
It’s all tits and tricks in Paul Elliot’s production as Stewart, Gray and Stott whip up another batch of satirical treats. The trio indulge in feisty pop-culture tunes while having a good laugh at some of the madder news stories of the year. Props go to costume designer Heidi Harper as Stott’s Narnian wardrobe churns out some of the more elaborate costumes this year. So it’s business as usual as Stott has the kids hissing while Stewart’s maternal warmth has the kids pissing (themselves).
