The cold weather does not stop the country music fans from queuing outside early for Darius Rucker‘s Summer Plays On tour, which sees the former Hootie & The Blowfish man wow his Glasgow fans, supported by newcomer Russell Dickerson.

The crowd are still pouring in when Dickerson pounces onto the stage. With tons of energy, he bounces through a set that mixes country with a bit of hip hop. This different style of country music is welcomed by the fans, and Dickerson thrives off the response, finishing his set with two singles that both made Number 1 in the Country Charts.

When Rucker walks out onto the dark stage, he bursts into Homegrown Honey, backed by his band The Carolina Grey Boys. All the fans sing along with every word, proving how firmly planted Rucker is in their hearts. Things start to get really loud as he dips into songs from his old band. For the well-known Hold My Hand, he is joined by Dickerson; the band, artists and audience love every minute.

The Carolina Grey Boys start to gather at the front of the stage for a well known tune in the country world. Rucker joins them and they all start to perform Wagon Wheel. It’s the perfect song to end with, as it gets everyone up on their feet dancing and singing.

Watching the Scottish fans all connect on their love of country music is amazing. The positive environment, and the love and appreciation in the room create a fantastic evening for everyone in the venue.
