‘Dinner Dinner Chicken Winner’ is a show about life’s winners, mostly seen through the eyes of losers.  Will and Noah are our guides through an hour of sketches based around the pursuit, and absence, of success. It’s a fitting concept for a Fringe show, one which plays on the notion of how up and coming performers have to make a fool of themselves in stuffy venues in order to get a shot at the big leagues. Based on the strength of this show, Will and Noah could well see their dreams realised very soon.

The show starts strongly with a bit where two former track athletes discussing past races are revealed to be the Tortoise and the Hare from Aesop’s fable. It’s indicative of the dynamic that Will and Noah work best in, with Will playing the smug, smarmy Tortoise, and Noah the exasperated Hare. After this we flit quickly between a pair of overly macho football dads, a nerdy valedictorian in contention with a popular jock, and a king informing a knight that his new duties include standing inside a static suit of armour to line the halls of his palace. A TV on the stage is used  to good effect while Will and Noah change costumes, continuing sketches or leading into the next one naturally. 

As with all sketch shows, not everything fully hits the mark. The front half of the show is far stronger than the back, with the grand finale feeling unfinished and rushed. The musical numbers are fun, but not as uproariously funny as the most well-crafted bits, such as their stand out turn as ‘Arm and a Leg’, a washed up comedy duo who bemoan cancel culture whilst being stood up in front of a jury. 

You can sense the decade Will and Noah have spent performing together through the strength of their camaraderie. They are both having so much fun, and this fun spills over into the audience, sometimes literally, as they harass the front row for having secreted vapes under their chairs with flavours such as ‘lasagne ice’. You can see the vision with Will and Noah – with a little more budget and a more refined collection of sketches they could surely find themselves being mentioned alongside other famous comedy duos. These guys are onto a winner.
