Night Moves
Yorgos Noussias/Greece/2009/88 min/tbc/Greek with English subtitles
Guns, ghouls and gore are the inevitable staples of this Greek horror parody, the sequel to 2005’s Evil. Set in Athens with flashbacks to ancient Greece, the film begins just days after the first film and follows the same group of survivors as they attempt to flee the city whilst discovering that one of their number is a legendary immortal hero, who will save them from the hordes of hungry zombies waiting outside.
Featuring an unlikely cameo from Billy Zane as a mysterious and indestructible ass-kicking monk, Noussias’ latest offering switches between the worlds of ancient and contemporary Greece, and reveals that both worlds are united by a returning evil that can only be destroyed a chosen warrior. Tongue in cheek throughout, this splatter-fest unceremoniously drops Greece straight into the dizzying heights of the horror/comedy film industry. Predictable and poorly acted with various plot holes; Evil in the time of heroes is not a film for the avid horror or zombie fanatic, but is probably best suited for anyone who doesn’t want to watch a movie with character development or an easy to follow narrative, and just fancies a quick giggle with some fake blood thrown in for good measure.
