The 80s are definitely in vogue this year, and High Life celebrates them in this tale of a mismatched gang of thieves and drug addicts at the cutting edge of crime in 1983 – trying to rob a fancy new ATM. As the plan goes wrong and morphs into something much bigger, Stephen Eric McIntyre relishes the chance to get his teeth into the role of loose cannon Bug, while his Timothy Oliphant as Dick, Bug’s partner in crime, explores all possible aspects of exasperation.

This is a fun if bloodthirsty adventure. The costumes embrace the worst of 80s fashion, and combined with the gleefully retro soundtrack you’ll be guaranteed a fond cringe at your own escapades in a decade that taste forgot. There’s little that’s new in this film, but it’s a good excuse to revel in nostalgia.
