Programmes like The Big Bang Theory, not to mention hundreds of High School movies, have created the belief that nerds are a uniquely male phenomenon. Australian performer Keira Daley’s show challenges this preconception and celebrates the famous and not so famous Lady-nerds out there. From Marie Curie to Florence Nightingale, and from inventors of Tippex and windscreen wipers to the contribution of 1940s Hollywood siren Hedy Lamarr to the development of the mobile phone, Daley relates their lives and achievements in story and song. The cabaret-style songs aren’t always a snug fit, although the torch song for Lord Byron’s mathematically obsessed daughter is hauntingly beautiful. The stories and Daley’s charm are a winning combination and as a bonus you walk away enlightened and informed – perfect for feeding you inner nerd.
