Showing @ Assembly George Square, Edinburgh until Sun 24 Aug (not 11) @ 17:30

Mark Grist is a lyrical poet and MC Mixy an accomplished rapper. Together they present a comedy poetry show where they attempt to convince the audience of the prowess of several dead poets. Each performer has chosen their four favourite dead poets and the audience decides which two will meet each other in a rap battle.

The concept of the performance is one of its strong points and the poems are backed up by the fact that both Grist and Mixy know how to engage an audience and present poetry in an honest and entertaining way. Each recites individually but occasionally they perform together, their rhymes complimenting one another. The word flow is seamless between the pair as they blend comedy, music and lyrics to present an unique poetry show. Grist and Mixy perform in front of a screen that shows the concept as an 8-bit video game. This adds to fun and excitement and makes Dead Poets’ Death Match feel like a fresh and joyful performance despite the fact the poets they celebrate are six feet under.
