Ozgur Uyanik/ UK 2009/ 80 min/ 18

Ambition, exploitation and resentment are just a few of the themes tackled in Ozgur Uyanik’s documentary style horror, Resurrecting The Streetwalker, a new British horror which probes the extremes of ambition and our propensity towards violence.

Set in contemporary London, Resurrecting The Streetwalker follows production company runner and wannabe film maker, James (James Powell) as he makes his first tentative steps in the film industry. But when he discovers raw footage from The Streetwalker, an unfinished 80s horror movie, he decides to film the ending, a decision which will change his life forever.

Using camcorders and footage from the fictional video nasty, Uyanik’s modern day horror explores the depths of human obsession and the lengths we will go to in order to achieve our dreams. Touching upon the urban legend of snuff films and the crimes of Charles Manson and his gang, Resurrecting The Streetwalker taps into our need to succeed, to use our talent to find the elusive ideal of opportunity. And then reveals the much darker side of the human psyche. A strong cast of relatively unknown actors create a believable platform for Uyanik’s carefully constructed story, which was only let down by the film’s extreme ending, which didn’t fit in with the film’s documentary style narrative.
