@ King’s Theatre, Glasgow, until Sun 10 Jan 2016

Year after year, Glasgow’s King’s Theatre presents the creme de la creme of Scottish Panto and this year is no exception.

Director Eric Potts has compiled a superb ensemble of Glasgow’s finest comedy brilliance featuring Gregor Fisher (commonly known as alter-ego Rab C. Nesbitt) as the “slightly” evil henchman, Hector, who keeps the audience entertained with his witty one-liners and intermittent outbursts of flatulence. Allan Jay shines as the handsome Prince Lorenzo in an effortless showcase of his rich vocal ability, complimented by the evangelical presence of Jenny Hayley-Douglas as Snow White. Other cast members include Evil Queen Morgiana (played by Juliet Cadzow) who addresses the stage with utmost sophistication in her glamorous attire and the multi-talented entertainer, stand up comedian and radio presenter Des Clarke as Muddles the Jester, who engages the audience with his high energy and vibrancy. And of course, no interpretation of Snow White could ever be complete without the Seven Dwarfs and their selfless admiration for Snow White and the greater good.

The show has its own contemporary twist, featuring chart topping songs such as Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud, The Boo Radleys’ Wake Up Boo! and an amusing homage to Susan Boyle’s Britain’s Got Talent performance of I Dreamed A Dream to coincide with Ian West’s polished choreography.

The panto stays fairly true to the original plot with a just a few minor script flaws. But, overall, a heart warming family show by a bunch of true professionals makes for a very entertaining evening.
