Support band Lucia & The Best Boys, an indie-rock band from Glasgow,  have a similar sound to The Last Dinner Party (TLDP) with their powerful vocals and drums alongside thoughtful interludes.  ‘Angels Cry Too’ was a particular highlight due to the anger layered in it; a song for angry feminists. The band’s stage presence and delivery were perfect, and they brought the energy before TLDP took the stage.

The band were met with sweeping orchestral pieces, before the title track to Prelude To Ecstasy welcomed the five-piece to the stage. The moment was perfect as they kicked things off with ‘Burn Alive’. Throughout the show I couldn’t help but feel the mystical energy which echoed around the 02; everyone was dressed in fairy/medieval-like clothes and belting each anthem; each song transcended us into another world.

Lead singer Abigail Morris astounded me with her engagement with the audience and stunning vocals; I wasn’t just watching a few people sing, this was a theatrical production: a proper show. Morris was all over the stage and it genuinely seemed like they were all having so much fun performing which was a joy to witness. During the touching ballad ‘Beautiful Boy’ the soft piano demanded complete silence as the sold out crowd stood in awe. It was an intimate and vulnerable moment as Morris alone provided a time for reflection amidst the general tumult of the evening.

Covering Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’ and playing two unreleased tracks, which they teased as part of their second album, was a surprising gift. ‘Killer’ and ‘Big Dog’ were two playful and upbeat tracks in their own right. The former was played in the encore before the band closed with the iconic ‘Nothing Matters’.

This was a truly cinematic experience; it is not often you go to a concert and are given a show, a production even. With the talent and success of their debut album I knew this would be a memorable gig; the fanbase they have developed through their fresh rock sound within such a short period of time is astounding. Morris is a once in a generation talent and her mesmerising presence tonight made for a terrific night.
