Performance artist Wendy Bevan last performed at the Fringe in 2010, providing music for a visually spectacular cabaret-style production of Wedekind’s sex tragedy Lulu. Her chanteuse was the highlight of an otherwise slight production, but more importantly the experience inspired Bevan to form a band. Temper Temper are led by Olga, Bevan’s femme fatale alter-ego who hearkens back to the golden age of silent film: all Cupid’s bow lips, smoky eyes, picture-perfect poses and a devastating voice that ranges from light and girlish to Dietrich-deep. The fusion of music and projected film provides the perfect vehicle for Bevan to explore the themes of idealised, feminine beauty and the suffering it causes which inspire much of her work.
