Sometimes the Fringe throws up little bits of magic like Hand Made Theatre, a company whose work is difficult to describe as it is absolutely unique. Physical theatre doesn’t quite do it justice, although there is an impressive degree of precision choreography involved. Puppetry comes closest, yet there are no actual puppets here. Instead, the performers use parts of their body (mainly, as their name suggests), hands and bare arms to create scenarios which range from comic to poetic. The magic lies in the detail, which brings these visions truly to life: a puff of exhaust smoke from a moving car, waves lapping at the bottom of a boat. The performers’ grins confirm that the show is just as much fun to perform as it is to watch.
