Complete The Circuit is our series of interviews with regulars on the Scottish comedy circuit. Each comedian answers our questions then nominates someone else to answer them next, until, having asked everyone who’s anyone we get back to the beginning.

Who are you, what are you and how are you feeling?

Hi! I’m Jay Lafferty, I am a Capricorn who was meant to be Sagittarius. I am feeling good, how are you feeling? [Mellow, thanks. It’s Sunday afternoon and we’ve had a drink – ed.]

When did you first think “I’m a comedian”?

When Mr Long, my 3rd year maths teacher accused me of being one. He did not appreciate my equation test answers.

When did anyone else first think you were a comedian?

3rd year classmates when I read out my answers to Mr Long’s equations test.

How do you like to work?

I love talking to people, hearing tall tales and developing ideas from experiences. I love to work in my pyjamas – comedy allows you the freedom to spend 70% of your day in pyjamas.

Someone nicks your joke. What do you do?

Write something even better…for their eulogy.

What do you like most about the Scottish comedy circuit?

The abundance of talent.

What do you like least about the Scottish comedy circuit?

The M8 diversions

The Fringe – Heaven or Hell and why?

Heaven – I live in Edinburgh, it is a whole month without having to travel. All your pals arrive and bring their amazing creative shows with them. What’s not to love?

What would you ban from comedy?

The phrase “Do you gig in London much?” – bored now!

In the kingdom of comedy, who’s the ruler, and what’s your role in the court?

There are no rulers only rule breakers. The court is full of jesters and I get to be one!

Give us a comedian we should talk to next?

Jay Lafferty: Besom is @ Gilded Balloon @ The Rose Theatre from Wed 2 Aug 2017
