Showing @ Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, Tue 4 – Wed 5 Oct

Since founding his company Random Dance 19 years ago at the grand old age of 22, British choreographer Wayne McGregor has become one of the most respected and influential voices in the world of dance. With his willingness to combine powerful physical movement, deeply focused on the strengths and limitations of the human form alongside film, visual art and cutting edge tech; and by having the shows scored by musical collaborators as diverse as The White Stripes, Joby Talbot and Kaija Saariaho, McGregor has led the way in un-ghettoising dance for a new generation.

It’s been three years since the company toured with a full length work but it clearly hasn’t dampened McGregor’s edge or desire for experimentation as the company brings FAR to the Edinburgh Festival Theatre on the 4th and 5th October. The show highlights the visceral, dislocated and occasionally disturbing forms of McGregor’s choreography, this time scored by Australian electronic maestro Ben Frost.

Frost is a composer of loops and soundscapes, linking together to build a greater whole, and they should prove the perfect accompaniment to the powerful, fractured dance style McGregor and his company have developed over the years.

All of this creative energy is performed in front of a set designed by award-winning company rAndom International and highlighted by the lighting of Lucy Carter.

Wayne McGregor | Random Dance have revolutionised the way the art of dance is viewed around the world; it’s experimental and astonishingly creative and eclectic, and no-one ever leaves one of their performances unimpressed or without having their minds opened to new possibilities. FAR has the chance to match or even surpass some of McGregor’s previous work so if you want to indulge in some sensory overload, organise a ticket now.
