Virtuous Flock

It’s creepy, its spooky and it’s all together ooky, N10 Productions return to Edinburgh following their success last year with Don Juan, with their latest and most spine-tingling  production, Virtuous Flock, which premieres in C Soco in Chambers Street this August.

Virtuous Flock promises to be a gruesome treat, full of revenge, murder and dark doings amongst the mahogany panels and flock wallpaper of a dilapidated Victorian mansion. Inspired by the penny dreadful (which is also the name of the play’s main character) which made our nineteenth century ancestor’s mutton-chops stand on end, and had them shaking in their bustles (although not at the same time). This modern revamp of the much-maligned literary classic has been updated with the addition of live music and songs, which means this show will be a fine, and bloodcurdling afternoonto be had.

Writer Billy Barrett’s attempt to mix Grand Guignol horror and musical theatre, is a brave and intriguing experiment, and should appeal to the Fringe crowd’s penchant for shows that are both quirky and challenging. This theatrical experiment is all the more interesting, as this is Barrett’s first stab at writing for the Fringe.

Judging by their triumphant run last year, it looks like No10 Productions may well have another winner on their hands, and despite its early afternoon showing, the show should bring a touch of the night into the audiences’ souls.
