22 Bullets really is a revenge movie. Revenge in its most cold calculated unforgiving bloody fantastic perfect form. In fact, if you want a slice of cold hearted revenge pie for supper then reach for the steak knife and pass me the lumpy gravy.  Jean Reno plays retired French mobster Charlie Mattei who is assassinated and shot 22 times. He survives, miraculously, yes they used to call him The Psycho and now they call him The Immortal, that certainly beats “the ginger whinger” for a nick name. Mattei vows to find out who ordered the hit. Very soon the line between friend and foe starts to blur as he gets closer to the truth and the core of Marseille’s underbelly.

Produced by the self appointed god father of mafia movies Luc Besson, it’s a guaranteed hard boiled French thriller, all the ingredients are there, gangsters, family, loyalty, poodles, men in ridiculous white two pieces suites and of course drugs. It’s as slick and stylish and the twist and turns are slippery. But as for the plot here, there’s going to be no spoiler, you’ll need to find out yourself. Otherwise it’ll be like the Sixth Sense all over again. What do you mean he’s a ghost? So enjoy your ignorance. Baring that in mind the story is quite simple and L’Immortel definitely has fundamental flaws, but overall it’s an intense, action-packed and bloody thriller of a ride. Oh and the poodle dies in the end by the way.
