Edinburgh International Film Festival 2012: Night Moves

For those who can stay awake long enough to watch any of the Night Mov(i)es, you won’t be disappointed. Covering all things gory, chilling and alien, this section offers a vast array of niche films for genre fans. This year’s late-night screenings see the World Première of Ian Clark’s Guinea Pigs and the European Première of Jon Wright’s Grabbers, two British films which deal with society’s need for a rational explanation amongst chaos. With the right mixture of humour and horror, Boris Rodriguez’s Eddie – The Sleepwalking Cannibal sets itself up for cult classic status as its disturbed narrative hits all the right notes. Director Eduárdo Sanchez (co-director of The Blair Witch Project) roots himself as the true genius behind home-footage terror with his chilling Lovely Molly. Finally, with an esteemed cast including John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell, Eric Wareheim’s Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie breaks away from the confines of comic sketches in order to explore the dark nature of greed and friendship.
