Showing @ Underbelly McEwan Hall, Edinburgh until Sun 25 Aug

What a fun night. Mr DJ knows how to turn it up. We are taken as if on some kind of space/party joy ride throughout the musical ages, hitting all the hits and pulling out all the stops. There are sparkles, balloons and loads of fun and chatty people. DJ Tom Loud sets the tone with charisma and spark. He never stops sharing his party and the sound system flanked by projector screens and enhanced by video gimics are great! Both the DJ and concept are consistently fun so much so that you don’t want to leave the dancefloor.

Because when you do, you realise the venue lets down it’s artist. McEwan Hall; party desination? What seems a great idea becomes school disco-y, complete with surly security guards shining torches on party goers and banishing the quieter men from the seats around the dance arena. Drinks are crazy expensive and in mini sized bottles and the queues for the loos are somewhat legendary. All things to consider more carefully next time. Obviously, if you’re smashed, no problem. But that reasoning would render any club night good. Hot Dub Time Machine, you’re better than that. Don’t let the man bring you down!
