Having recently celebrated its first birthday, and survived the most challenging year for Edinburgh hospitality EVER, Pier Brasserie – we’re thrilled to say – continues to boast a menu that’s utterly mouthwatering!

Offering a gorgeous @ HOME menu, we throughly recommend cocktails and three courses as the perfect date night. With 95% of the work already done, all you have to do is follow simple instructions, pour the drinks, and of course, don we now our fabulous apparel.

Naturally, we kick off our night with a series of wonderfully potent, and expertly pre-mixed cosmopolitans. They’re outrageously good by the way. One more round could easily result in us dancing, or worse: singing, along to Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse of the heart, BUT …

Instead we move – to a disco beat – into the kitchen, and begin to prepare our North Scallop Tortellini with smoked marrow, aromatic carrot puree & red wine jus. The scallops are full of flavour, and the puree is like eating a burst of sunshine. We are ravenous for more!

So, it’s on with the oven gloves for Isaac, as Derek looks after front of house [ aka drinking far too much Bottega. ] Soon we’re experiencing the joy that is Slow Braised beef cheek with buttered mash & bourguignon sauce. One of our absolute favourites, every mouthful is like being hugged by someone extremely attractive.

Though somehow [ total eclipse!! ] the Fillet steak Wellington with dauphinoise potatoes, red wine glazed green beans & roasted squash is EVEN better. OMG such intense, rich, moreish flavours. And for those of you who really enjoy a big portion: prepare to be wowed!

Mind you, we also manage to squeeze in a couple of sides. The soothing, somewhat addictive Creamed peas, leeks & bacon, as well as a few Crispy haggis fritters. Lightly coated in oats, and with some serious spice, they are eye-rollingly good.

After a small interlude – brought to us by our good friend red wine – it’s time to finish this superb meal with dessert. The Sticky toffee pudding is of course faultless, but we’d also like to heap much praise upon the Dark chocolate mousse.

Not only does the orange gel make this a pairing of perfection, but the addition of citrus sponge gives it a unique and lush texture. You simply MUST try this!

Eventually, two more bottles of wine also disappear, and Bonnie Tyler does indeed have her moment to shine. But what an incredible meal, and a what brilliant night – one we cannot recommend highly enough. Much love to Mark & his wonderful team @ Pier Brasserie. Happy Birthday and here’s to many more!
