With cabaret performances largely tucked away for the guilty pleasures of the Fringe, Saturnalia tickle that need for humour, titillation and style with their successful series of modern cabarets hitting the Edinburgh venues. Acts include magicians, comedians, live music and burlesque. But proving to be one of the corner stones of modern cabaret, the element of absurd, variety act oozes from the stage with Otto the Dancing Bear, and as directors Scott Smith and James Fletcher put it, “a man in the biggest turban you’ve ever seen doing some pretty painful stuff”…

Following the success of their previous act ‘The Little One’ in the small, intimate Voodoo Rooms, the guys have stepped up a gear and this time Saturnalia is housed in the majestic Ghillie Dhu at the West End. Smith and Fletcher say; “the aim for Saturnalia is to become a recognised name here in Edinburgh, and for cabaret to be something that people go to on a regular basis. I’d love it if we could get to the point where people started thinking  ‘Thursday night. Isn’t that cabaret night?’”

Aiming high and carving out a niche in an saturated market of cheap booze and student nights, Saturnalia is one to watch, especially if your partial to a bit of naughtiness on a Thursday night.
