The Citizens Theatre is kicking off 2018 with one of its well-known 50p ticket sales. Theatregoers can grab themselves a 50p ticket for Rona Munro’s Bold Girls from 10am this Saturday, 20 Jan.

100 tickets are available across 10 performances and customers are limited to a maximum of two tickets per person each. Tickets need to be purchased in cash in person from the theatre, and you are advised to get there early to avoid disappointment.

Bold Girls debuted at Cumbernauld Theatre in 1991 and heralded the arrival of Munro as a major new voice in Scottish theatre. She would go on to write such works as the celebrated James Plays. The play is set against the backdrop of the Troubles in Belfast and features three working class women – Marie, Cassie and Cassie’s mother Nora – whose lives are upturned by the appearance of a fourth, Deirdre, a young girl with revelations.

This production runs from 24 Jan – 10 Feb and is directed by Richard Baron who also directed Rona Munro’s Iron in 2012. The cast includes former River City star Deirdre Davis.

The ticket offer honours the Citizens Theatre’s historic reputation for offering world-class theatre at affordable prices. The 50p tickets were first offered at the Citizens in 1976 and almost 3,500 have been sold since Dominic Hill revived the practice in 2012.

Regular tickets for Bold Girls are also available from the box office on 0141 429 0022 or  citz.co.uk, starting at £2 concessions.

Bold Girls is @ Citizens Theatre, Glasgow from Wed 24 Jan – Sat 10 Feb 2018
