Edinburgh’s Summerhall is gearing up for Christmas with a festive film series. Starting at 7pm, Friday and Saturday evenings will see screenings of some much-loved classics including Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, Jim Carrey’s The Grinch, Gremlins and the less well-known Finnish fantasy Rare Exports, which reimagines Santa Claus as an ancient monster unearthed from the perma-frost to wreak havoc on a small Finnish village. Tickets for all screenings are £8.

The arts centre also has music in store too. Lost Map bring the festive cheer to Summerhall on Fri 20 Dec with Starz In Their Eyes, an alternative take on the classic musical impersonation show. Promoters Neu! Reekie! are also getting in on the act with their annual Christmas bash Cold Turkey, which this year features Hollie McNish and Withered Hand among others.

The Summerhall Christmas Market on Sun 8 Dec hosts Edinburgh’s best artisans and makers, giving you the chance to get those Christmas stockings filled. And cult throwback club night Magic Nostalgic will be celebrating Hogmanay in the Dissection Room. But the Christmas programme kicks off on Sat 30 Nov with Fair Play, a showcase of Summerhall’s artist development programmes this year. All profits go back into future artist development.
