The current infatuation with reunion & classic album tours has led to another hero of the genre making its way to Glasgow ABC this Wednesday (3rd of August).

Elder statesmen The Jayhawks – fresh from a 4 year hiatus – will be wielding their country soaked rock n’ roll to an eager Glasgow audience.

So what makes this special? Well, hailing from Minneapolis in the mid 80’s the Jayhawks were the first of their ilk to prove that you didn’t necessarily have to come from the country to play country music.

Before Ryan Adams, Wilco and *ahem*, the Kings of Leon, the Jayhawks were forging ahead more a less creating the Alt Country-cum-Americana genre.

Tipping their hat to Gram Parsons as well as Big Star etc., over the course of 7 albums they widened their sound to encompass summery pop and straight ahead alternative rock

To see where the alt. country genre began then make your way to Glasgow’s ABC, considering this has been moved up from the Òran Mór, there certainly seems to be a healthy demand for it.

Tickets are £17.50 (over 14’s show) – available from http://www.o2abcglasgow.co.uk/
