To celebrate its 20th birthday, Matthew Bourne’s take on Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker is going on tour before returning to Covent Garden. Bourne is the undoubted star of the ballet firmament and for the last 25 years has stamped his personality and imagination on the world of dance, reinventing and reinvigorating many of the classic ballets.

Bourne’s Nutcracker has been frequently revived and has become a Christmas tradition in its own right, as much a part of the festive season for London dance goers as mince pie, tinsel and family arguments. And for those of us unable to afford the fare down south, this is a chance to share the magic. This production is peopled with fresh young talent from Bourne’s New Adventures company including Hannah Vassallo as Clara and Chris Trenfield as Nutcracker and the cast is packed, as you would expect, with astonishing balletic talent. This is a chance to see ballet at its finest and most fun – and is the perfect wintery treat to start your Christmas season.
