After the release of their eighth studio album, La noche eterna. Los días no vividos, took the number one spot in Spain, Barcelonan band Love of Lesbian are fast becoming one of the nation’s most popular groups. They have come to the UK on a very limited tour of only two venues to share their rousing music.

The six piece indie outfit play a cross between traditional up-tempo rock but with a softer, more romantic edge. At times the sound waves feverishly reverberate the plaque loose from your teeth, while at other moments you’re seduced by a near lullaby smoothness, the backing singer’s ethereal harmonies gently relaxing you, only to be shaken to your senses again later. The songs are catchy with melodious input from the keyboards and the response from the predominantly Spanish crowd, enthusiastically singing back their lyrics, would suggest they have a passionate following. However the tunes mainly all follow simple chord progressions with no single riff or refrain particularly standing out, embedding in your ears to whistle on the way home. The performances too are a little lacklustre, other than lead singer Santi Balmes whose spirited showmanship shows up his companion’s less expressive countenances. Enjoyable but not remarkable, something may well have been lost in translation.
