Dressed as a gorilla dressed as an old man, young man takes to the stage in his trademark self-deprecating style. The self-styled rocker of rocking chairs then sits, ironically, in a rocking chair, ostensibly to rock for 56 minutes and then leave. However, this year’s show title toys with audience preconceptions, almost daring us to interpret it as more than the simple statement of fact it obviously is. In so doing, it invites questions that rock the concept of rocking in rocking chairs to its foundations. To wit, will he leave after rocking in a rocking chair for 56 minutes? Or will he rock in a rocking chair for 56 minutes before leaving? We are literally on tenterhooks.

It is about a year since Young Man Dressed As A Gorilla Dressed As An Old Man was last at the Fringe. In the time since he has lost none of his considerable comedy chops. His hard-hitting routine continues to challenge society’s attitudes to sitting, while tackling important issues around “gorillaness”, “rockingism” and  “chairphobia”.

Lovers of last year’s Young Man Dressed As A Gorilla Dressed As An Old Man Sits Rocking In A Rocking Chair for 56 Minutes and Then Leaves 7, or, for those with longer memories, the classic Young Man Dressed As A Gorilla Dressed As An Old Man Sits Rocking In A Rocking Chair For 56 Minutes and Then Leaves 2, will not be disappointed with his set this year which includes the rip-roaring Dressing As A Gorilla, the much-loved Dressing As An Old Man and the timeless Sitting Rocking In A Rocking Chair For 56 Minutes And Then Leaving.

But while Rocking In A Rocking Chair For 56 Minutes might still be ok, if you like that sort of thing, everyone knows it is now extremely hack to Dress As A Gorilla, and Then Leaving is the ultimate in cliche. Personally, I would have liked the gorilla to have been more orangutan-y and I found the old man too elderly and masculine, though some people seemed to enjoy it.

The climax of this show is almost ruined when A Young Man Dressed As A Gorilla Dressed As An Old Man Sits Rocking In A Rocking Chair for 56 Minutes and then doesn’t leave, but then a tech comes on stage to tell a A Young Man Dressed As A Gorilla Dressed As An Old Man that he has been Rocking In A Rocking Chair For 56 Minutes, and then he leaves. The audience can barely contain themselves.

A Young Man Dressed As A Gorilla Dressed As An Old Man Sits Rocking In A Rocking Chair for 56 Minutes and Then Leaves is a must-see not-to-be-missed show for all the family. If you love rocking in rocking chairs, or dressing as a gorilla dressed as an old man, you will simply love this show! Definitely one to watch!
