Geordie stars Jimmy Nail and Sting are teaming up on a UK tour of The Last Ship which comes to Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre and Glasgow’s Theatre Royal next June after an opening four weeks in Newcastle.

Pithily-named tantric-sex practitioner Sting based the musical on his own childhood experiences amid the shipbuilding industry in Wallsend.  The show includes songs from his 1991 album The Soul Cages, including the hit single All This Time.

Crocodile-Shoed professional Geordie Nail will star as foreman Jackie, with further casting will be announced in due course.

The show earned two Tony nominations for its music, but lost money in America, and closed early on Broadway. It’s hoped the reboot for British audiences will prove more successful

The production will be directed by the artistic director of Northern Stage, Edinburgh-born Lorne Campbell, while the set design is by the Tony Award-winning 59 Productions, known for their immensely popular work on the Edinburgh International Festival launch events, Bloom, Deep Time and the Harmonium Project.

The Last Ship is @ Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, from Mon 11 – Sat 16 June 2018;
and @ Theatre Royal, Glasgow, from Mon 18 – Sat 23 June 2018
